Teresa Teng* was a Taiwanese artist (singer, musician, actress, and philanthropist), defined by many as the "Asia's eternal queen of pop".
Over her 30 years of career, she became a cultural icon for her contributions to the development of the Chinese music industry, by incorporating western and eastern styles into her music. She recorded more than 1,700 songs, in Mandarin, but also in Hokkien, Cantonese, Shanghainese, Japanese, Indonesian, English, and Italian!
In 1986, Time named her one of the seven greatest female singers in the world.
In 2007, she was inducted into the "Popular Music Hall of Fame" at the Koga Masao Music Museum in Japan, becoming the only non-Japanese national to do so.
In 2010, she was voted "the most influential woman in modern China" by the Chinese media and radio stations in and outside the country.

Right! An impressive career!
The reason why I know Teresa Teng is because of one of the songs she sung: ''The Moon Represents My Heart'' (月亮代表我的心).
You know the story of that ballad, written and recorded in 1973 by Dolly Parton... that one day, in 1992, happened to be sang by Whitney Houston in a movie called "The Bodyguard", with Kevin Costner,... that "I will always love you"... ?! Yep, we're kinda going in that direction...
''The Moon Represents My Heart'' was composed in the 1970s and sung in 1973 by Chen Fen-lan (陳芬蘭), however it became the most famous Chinese pop songs of all time** only when Teresa Teng performed it in 1977.
The reality is that, for me, everything rotates around the F4, so the first time I heard the song was when Jerry Yan sung it in a live performance. No... I wish!... unfortunately no, I have never seen an F4's live show: only videos online and dvds!
I adore the song, it's a sweet love declaration. Teresa Teng's version is one of the most melodious you could listen too. I have heard various covers and always went back to "the dear Teresa", but I am gonna tell you: I have recently listened to Khalil Fong's interpretation and... not bad, not bad!
Well... Don't get me wrong: Jerry Yan won my heat, nevertheless, for the romantic idea of entering in a gigantic bird-type cage on the stage with one of the thousands of screaming girls attending to the concert... and while singing this song, he took her hand and looked deeply into her eyes... I, still today, wonder how she had managed not to jump on him and hug him desperately... oh well... but maybe this is only the Italian blood speaking out of my veins! :D
